Whether in the guise of superheroines or castle damsels, Brigitta Bödenauer and Susanna Gartmayer constantly devise new approaches to music, by way of a surprising stage presence.
With Brigitta Bödenauer (AT), Susanna Gartmayer (AT)
One spans out acoustic structures and leads her listeners into the depths of space, the other makes full use of the complex tonal qualities of the bass and contra-alto clarinet: With inquiring minds, precision and persistence, the two musicians Brigitta Bödenauer and Susanna Gartmayer engage in their search for ever new sounds and musical approaches. Three qualities that they both share.
While Bödenauer worked as an experimental film maker and installation artist, Gartmayer studied graphic reproduction: Two highly visual approaches to music. In addition, Brigitta Bödenauer has made a name for herself as organiser and DJ in the Viennese noise and experimental music scene. Susanna Gartmayer works in the fields of improvisation, experimental rock music, contemporary music, and multimedia sound performance, and is also a member of numerous ensembles, for example the Vegetable Orchestra.
Their duo project is marked by a shared interest in rhythms and the pleasure they take in playing with their stage presence. In every performance, Gartmayer and Bödenauer take on a new role, one which also demands a new mode of playing, for instance when they appear before their audience in the guise of superheroines or mummified castle damsels. What role will they be playing at musikprotokoll?
