steirischer herbst 2016 with its leitmotif Wir schaffen das. [We can do this.] – On the Shifting of Cultural Cartographies is over.
There were 130 projects and 526 events on 24 days. The number of visitors was 61,669 and it is also gratifying to note once again the very high percentage of tickets sold for stage productions and concerts of 94/49 %. We want to thank all the partcipants – more than 900 artists, theorists and other participants from a total of 56 nations were involved.
steirischer herbst 2016 is proclaiming an Arrival Zone in the Annenviertel district of Graz – a network of art spaces and venues for events marked by architectural interventions by British artist couple Morag Myerscough and Luke Morgan.
In an installative trail over several rooms, Julian Hetzel investigates the concept of debt. Strikingly and surprisingly, he demonstrates the different types of indulgence trade between beauty clinic and soap production.
This year's steirischer herbst exhibition imagines the migration of cultural signs across borders, of body language as the signs carried on our backs, even if it is the only luggage we are able to carry.
Angolan artist Kiluanji Kia Henda invites the audience to take part in an artistic outing along the south Styrian border, inserting an installation in the landscape that spotlights current political events.
On their musical tour of town and country, Natalie Ofenböck and Der Nino aus Wien combine Styrian and Viennese sounds – an album like a road movie.
On four weekends during the festival, club panamur invites you to the Orpheum with a transnational programme of music and subversively playful architecture.
This is the eleventh issue of the herbst festival magazine. As always, it is more than a programme booklet that sums up and explains specific works.
