Tommi Tokyo and Sayaka Botanic met for the first time in London, but founded the band Group A in their hometown of Tokyo. Both cities are characteristic of the duo’s sound: Supercooled industrial music à la Throbbing Gristle or Cabaret Voltaire is combined with a radically interpreted form of Noise Rock that has always flourished in Japan to create multimedia performance art. The soundtrack for the band’s visually high-contrast performances is created with synthesiser, voice and violin, presented in front of flickering projections, in avant-garde costumes and as always – their distinctive trademark – Asian conical hats.
